SAFFORD — World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15 and five agencies will come together this week to bring local awareness to the issue.
On Friday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be an awareness-raising event at Haven of Safford, Partnering with Haven Health of Safford is Southeastern Arizona Community Unique Services (SEACUS), SEAGO’s Area Agency on Aging, Banner University Health Plans and the Arizona Department of Economic Security.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was launched by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations, with the purpose of providing an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.
