SAFFORD — The man who has been an integral part of Special Olympics in the Gila Valley, has coordinated Cowboy Christmas and Produce on Wheels Without Waste, and volunteered at too many community events to count, has been recognized for his efforts.

On Thursday, Marion Hastings was presented the Pride of Safford Award.

“I am so honored to receive this,” Hastings said. “You guys don’t know how much this has touched my heart.”

Hastings is the immediate past president of the Safford Lions Club, and sits on the board of directors for Great Communities Resource Center (GCRC), which serves those with developmental disability.

“Marion never hesitates to volunteer his time and is constantly pursuing the opportunity to help others. He remains selfless in his devotion towards his neighbors and is always willing to give a helping hand for the sake of the community,” reads the award nomination from Jerry and Thonya Burger.
