SAFFORD — Gila Watershed Partnership is bringing back an old favorite to reacquaint the public with the organization.

First Friday Social at the GWP greenhouse on Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park Campus returns this Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“You’re going to get a tour of the greenhouse and all of our nursery activities, we’re going to feed you lunch, and then if you want to stay and participate in a little volunteer activity, we’re going to do seed cleaning,” said GWP Executive Director Dr. Sarah Sayles.

GWP’s mission is to “engage the community in improving the water quality and ecosystem condition of the Upper Gila Watershed through education and economic opportunity.”

In addition, the organization grows native plants for the watershed as well as for other nonprofit organizations. And twice a year GWP makes some of those plants available for purchase by the general public, as both a fund-raiser and to help reduce water usage in residential landscaping.

On its social media, GWP announced it is seeking to hire a new programs manager, and is taking applications for Americorps internships, that will run from April to July. Interns must 18 or older.
