PHOENIX — State Rep. Gail Griffin, chair of the House Natural Resources, Energy and Water Committee, announced Tuesday that she was recently presented with the 2021 Regional Award for Outstanding Service from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).

The Regional Award for Outstanding Service recognizes outstanding service to electric cooperatives by individuals at the regional or state level.

“Throughout my time in the Legislature I have been a strong proponent of electrical cooperatives,” Griffin said. “They are consumer owned, not-for-profit entities that ensure their members are provided with reliable and affordable service. I will continue to champion electrical cooperatives for the vital role they play in strengthening rural Arizona.”

In a letter to Griffin informing her of the Region 10 Award, NRECA CEO Jim Matheson wrote, “For the past 20 years, your guidance, passion and dedication to the electric co-op family gained you a reputation as a great leader in the electric cooperative program. Your strong commitment to the seven cooperative principles and work on advocacy, education and training had a profound effect throughout the State of Arizona. Congratulations on receiving this award.”

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association represents America’s electric cooperatives, including more than 900 consumer-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperatives, public power districts, and public utility districts across America.

Griffin is a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives serving Legislative District 14, which includes areas of Greenlee, Graham, Cochise and eastern Pima Counties.
