Greenlee County ready to celebrate Independence Day

DUNCAN — Plans for the Fourth of July in two Greenlee County communities have been announced.

Duncan will actually start things off Saturday, July 2, with the Fourth of July Car Show at the Riverfront Lounge on Main Street. The event gets underway with registration at 9 a.m.

On Monday, July 4, start the day with the Duncan Valley Fire Department pancake breakfast in Centennial Park. The breakfast runs from 6:30-8 a.m. and Duncan Valley Fire is asking for a $5 per plate donation.

At 8 a.m., the parade down Main Street will take place, followed at 9:30 a.m. by the three-on-three basketball, and six-on-six volleyball tournament at Duncan High School. From 4-8 p.m. will be family fun on the Duncan High School football field, with fireworks at 8:30 p.m. to cap off the day.

Morenci’s Fourth of July celebration starts with a pancake buffet in the Morenci Motel from 7-10 a.m., with the parade getting started at 8 a.m.

There will be events throughout the townsite all day, including water games at the high school football field, a cart run, free bowling and movies, a classic car show, money dive, entertainment and a hot dog eating contest at noon in DeGrazia Park.

The fireworks show will take place after sunset and the raffle winners will be announced July 5.
