Phoenix – Graham County was among 127 statewide employers recognized by the Healthy Arizona Worksite Program (HAWP) at it’s annual award event on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.
The event was held at The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. 127 businesses from across the state were recognized with Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum awards for their worksite wellness program strategies.
Dr. Cara Christ, Director of Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), and Sherry Haskins, HAWP Program Manager, were on hand to address employers and thank them for their commitment to employee health and wellness.
In addition to the annual awards recognition, the program provides guidance to create a healthy workplace culture and tools proven to improve employee health and wellness, free of charge.
“I want to congratulate all of the employers that have made a commitment to creating healthy worksites,” Dr. Christ said. “When employers implement programs to create healthier places to work, they are developing more engaged workforce and contributing to the overall health of our communities. I encourage more employers from both the public and private sectors to implement programs that will make their workplaces healthier places for their employees.”
To date, hundreds of corporations, healthcare organizations, public agencies, and educational institutions have used the program’s evidenced-based worksite wellness tool known as CDC Workplace Health Scorecard. “This scorecard helps businesses benchmark their own success annually and compare scores with companies of comparable size,” says Sherry Haskins. “With so many creative ways a business can create a culture of health for employees, having a tool like the scorecard is key to prioritizing needs and health outcomes.” More than 83% of businesses returned to use the scorecard in 2018.”
At today’s event, employers were recognized by HAWP in four distinct categories depending on the tangible steps taken to improve the health and well-being of their worksites. The Gold level award, which was awarded to Graham County, is awarded to businesses that are tracking and documenting outcomes and behavior change. Gold level programs have demonstrated institutional support and have integrated worksite health programs with business policies and benefits. Their programming is data and outcomes driven. More criteria can be found on the HAWP website at HealthyAZWorksites.org.
The next HAWP 101 training is scheduled for June 1. All interested employers can register at www.HealthyAZWorksites.org.
