Graham County Health Department making COVID-19 vaccine available to children over 5

SAFFORD — Children as young as 5 can now received the COVID-19 vaccine in Graham County.

Graham County Health Department announced Monday the expansion of eligibility to children for free vaccinations at the county’s vaccination clinic on Main Street in Safford.

The Health Department also reported 92 new cases were diagnosed Nov. 4-8, with 630 cases considered active.

That brings the total number of new cases in November thus far to 260, slightly more than the same time in 2020, when there were 249 new cases through Nov. 8.

The number of area residents hospitalized for COVID-19 who are not vaccinated is also up.

Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center reported that, as of Nov. 4, 93.1 percent of those hospitalized due to coronavirus are not vaccinated. That’s up slightly from the hospital’s last reporting on Oct. 27, when the hospitalized who are unvaccinated was at 92.2 percent.

The daily average of people hospitalized for COVID-19 has remained flat at 12.

Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the United Way of Greenlee Counties, is offering free drive-up COVID-19 testing at the hospital’s Copper Mountain Clinic.

Free drive-up testing takes place Monday through Friday, from 1-7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
