SAFFORD — The Gila Valley Ministerial Association has a pair of events planned for Good Friday.

The 27th annual ecumenical Good Friday service, celebrating the last words of Jesus Christ on the cross, will move outdoors, taking place at the outdoor amphitheater on the Thatcher campus of Eastern Arizona College, near the clock tower.

The service takes place at noon and attendees are asked to bring their own chairs.

At 5 p.m., starting at Graham County Courthouse and moving eastward along Safford’s Main Street, Rev. Devin Gillespie will lead the Way of the Cross prayer walk.

“Which is the Stations of the Cross,” said Sherry Brady. “You’ll see that in churches. In fact, St. Rose of Lima has 14 pictures on the sides of their sanctuary. It is events that happened during the Passion of the Christ, on the way to the cross.”

At various locations along the prayer walk route, participants will stop, hear the story about that station of the cross.

People from all faiths are encouraged to join in and people can join the walk at any stage. It will end at All-Saints Episcopal Church.

The Ministerial Association is made up of churches from a number of different faiths throughout the Gila Valley.
