Gila Valley Pride event is Saturday

SAFFORD — Gila Valley Pride is moving to a new location this year, in the hopes of bringing in more participation from the community at large.

“One of the misconceptions is that Pride is just for LGBTQ individuals, and it’s not,” said co-organizer Nick Nordgran-Tellez. “There are so many straight, CIS gender, however you want to label them, that attend Pride events. It is a fun time; families go, friends, allies, you name it. It’s a whole plethora of people, it’s not just members of the LGBTQ community, and it becomes a community event.”

The second annual Gila Valley Pride event will take place Saturday, June 24, from 4-7 p.m., in the parking lot of All Saints Episcopal Church.

Like last year, the event is a pot luck and all are asked to bring food or beverages to share.

Pride events celebrate social- and self-acceptance, as well as civil rights gains for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer individuals.
