Free youth mental health first aid training is being offered at the Graham County General Services Building Assembly Room
Youth Mental Health First Aid Training teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substances use disorders. This is a 8- hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
Information covered:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Eating disorders
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Common signs of substance abuse disorder
- How to interact with an adolescent in crisis
- How to connect the adolescent to help
Training spaces are limited to 30 people per training. Training comes with manual and you receive certification upon completion.
The course is being offered twice in Graham County. The first course is for educators and the second course is for parents and people who work with youth.
