SAFFORD — Next up in the community reading program The Big Read is a discussion on this year’s book, “The Bear” by Andrew Krivak.

The discussion, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will take place Thursday, Nov. 17, at 5:30 p.m., in the Safford City-Graham County Library’s programming room. Refreshments will be served.

There is no cost to participate and copies of the book are available for free.

“We still have plenty at the library and they’re also available at the Chamber of Commerce,” said Library Supervisors Leslie Talley. “So, if you haven’t gotten your book yet, come see us. We still have books to give away.”

Talley added that the audio version of the book is also available on the library’s cloud app.

“The Bear” is set in the future where society as we know it has fallen away, and the book follows the last two humans on Earth.

An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens understanding of the world, communities, and individuals through the power of a shared reading experience.

It’s the second year in a row the Safford Library was selected to participate, and Graham County is one of 62 communities nationwide participating in the 2022-23 NEA Big Read.
