Fort Thomas boys and girls basketball teams advance to 1A semifinals

Surprise, Ariz. — The #2 seeded Fort Thomas Lady Apaches wasted no time on Friday evening against #7 Baboquivari in the 1A Quarterfinals. Kaylee Benally scored 7 quick points in the first quarter to push their lead to 18-4 after the first eight minutes.

Fort Thomas kept the pressure on in the 2nd quarter and pushed their lead to 40-23 at the half. The defense woke up at halftime and the Apaches held the Warriors to just 16 second half points to run away with the game, 77-39. Adaia Lorenzo led all scorers with 22 points. Benally fished with 13 points and 9 rebounds.

Fort Thomas will play Mogollon at 2pm later today at Millenium High School in the 1A semifinal.

The #2 Fort Thomas boys had their hands full with #7 Cicero Prep in their quarterfinal matchup. The Centurions led 15-14 after the first quarter but Fort Thomas outscored Cicero 16-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-24 halftime lead.

Cicero Prep came out of the locker room with something to prove as they outpaced The Fort 17-8 to regain a 41-38 edge heading into the 4th quarter. That’s when Fort Thomas guard, Channing Wilson, got hot. He scored 13 points in the 4th to give the Apaches a 54-49 win. Wilson finished with a game high 34 points.

Fort Thomas will play The Gregory School later today at 4pm at Millenium High School in the 1A semifinals.

Both games will be broadcast live on KATO 1230AM.
