According to the Forest Service Facebook page, as of 7:30 pm last, two fires have merged and the incident is now being referred to as the Treadway Fire. Yesterday afternoon, the fire pushed to the northeast onto the San Carlos Reservation but at this time there were no threats to cultural values or infrastructure. Last night a hotshot crew reportedly conducted a burning operation along road systems and washes as part of containment efforts. The fire will likely be highly visible due to its location and the overnight operation.
#BlackMountainFire and #TreadwayFire: estimated at 3,000 acres total. The fires have not merged as of yet and are moving to the northeast. Both are terrain and wind driven and have extreme fire behavior. Six Single Engine Air Tankers, two Large Air Tankers and one helicopter worked the fire earlier, but were not effective as the retardant is not holding and the fire has punched through. A suppression plan is currently being addressed as terrain is rugged and some roads are difficult to access. There are no structures threatened with some grazing lands impacted. The fires are located in rugged terrain on Black Mountain approximately 17 miles north of Safford.
