THATCHER — The Gila Valley Food Coalition wants to get healthier food into everyone’s hands, and to do that, it wants to work with producers.
In conjunction with Local First Arizona, the Gila Valley Food Coalition will hold an interactive Funding for Farmers workshop Monday, June 14, from 9-10 a.m., at the Hoopes Activity Center on the Thatcher campus of Eastern Arizona College.
“This is really intended for anyone who is interested in starting a food business related to produce or growing your own stuff,” said the coalition Coordinator Kathryn Williams.
It’s also for those who have a food business and are looking to expand.
“We really want to target that person who is just starting out or they don’t have a very big operation but are looking to sell their produce, specifically in the Gila Valley,” Williams said. “We want this model of neighbors feeding neighbors to be more sustainable.”
The goal is to build capacity of producers as well as develop a sustainable local food system for buyers.
