Protect yourself and others in your care:
- Schedule activities during the coolest time of day. Check temperature, air quality, and UV index.
- Start activities slowly and gradually pick up the pace to help children adjust to hot weather. Facilitate any outdoor activities in the shade as much as possible.
- Teach children to tell an adult if they or a friend are feeling overheated.
- Provide frequent hydration breaks before, during, and after being outdoors (8 gulps of water is recommended for every 15 minutes).
Encourage staff and students to wear hats, sunglasses, and lightweight clothing.
