EDEN — Residents between Eden Road and Fort Thomas are being asked by the Graham County Sheriff’s Office to prepare for evacuation due to the Bryce fire.

Residents of the area are now in “Set” status, and should gather loved ones, pets and supplies to be ready to leave if the Sheriff’s Office changes the status to “Go” and orders evacuation.

The fire was reported to have grown to 160 acres but was at 80 percent containment as of Thursday evening; however, Friday morning the fire jumped containment lines to the north and northwest, and by the afternoon had grown to 300 acres.

Strong winds are driving the fire into thick patches of salt cedar trees.

Two hand crews and two engines were previously assigned to battle the blaze, which are now being joined by a Type 1 hand crew, three single-engine air tankers and the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management’s air attack platform

The fire was discovered Wednesday, at about 7 p.m., in the river bottom about 1.5 miles southeast of Eden and 7 miles northwest of Pima.

Editor’s note: This story was edited at 2:25 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, to update the fire’s acreage.
