EAC Wellness Center Tentatively Scheduled to Re-Open by March 1

THATCHER, Ariz.— Eastern Arizona College’s Wellness Center is tentatively scheduled to re-open to the public by March 1. This decision comes after an extensive evaluation to determine the damage caused from a water line break that flooded portions of Guitteau Gymnasium last week. The remainder of the gym will stay closed as crews remove damaged items and fix portions of the floor.

“Out of an abundance of caution, and in compliance with state and federal regulations, a certified contractor conducted air quality tests and all the results came back clear,” stated Dan Welker, EAC director of physical resources. “At this point – barring any unforeseen circumstances – we are on pace to open to the public by March 1.”

Current students who attend other classes in the gym have been asked to contact their instructors to find out what arrangements have been made. Men’s and women’s basketball games are being held at Thatcher High School, and locker rooms used for other sports are relocated to other areas on EAC’s Thatcher Campus.

“We want to thank the public for their patience during this time,” stated Jim Bagnall, EAC athletic director. “We know how important the Wellness Center is to the community and we look forward to having them back as quickly as possible.”

For more information, the public is encouraged to contact Kris McBride, EAC director of public relations, at 928-428-8320.
