EAC presents its Spring Musical, Bright Star

THATCHER, Ariz. — Eastern Arizona College’s Fine Arts Division proudly presents its annually awaited Spring Musical, Bright Star, from April 5 – April 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is $5/person and the show is rated PG-13.

Bright Star is the story of Alice Murphy at two different points in her life. As a young teen in Zebulon, North Carolina, she is hopelessly in love with small town heartthrob Jimmy Ray, the mayor’s son. Although their love is pure, it falls victim to the interference of ambitious parents. More than two decades later, Alice is the successful editor of The Asheville Southern Journal, where she meets a promising young writer named Billy. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out to understand her past- and what she finds has power to change both their lives. With toe-tapping melodies and moving characters the story unfolds in a beautiful tale of love and redemption. It is rated PG-13 for mature themes and content, including adult relationships and alcohol use.

Bright Star was written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell and opened to generally positive reviews at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego in 2014. It closed after 139 performances. The cast recording was nominated for the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Admission to Bright Star is $5 per person, or free to full-time students with ID.
