THATCHER — With a little more than a month left in the fall semester, Eastern Arizona College students who find themselves in need are finding that help may not be immediately available.
The shelves at the EAC Monster Exchange are bare and organizers are asking for the public’s help.
Since the fall semester started in August, the Monster Exchange has served 280 unique students, who have made 1,149 visits.
The Monster Exchange serves multiple purposes — as a food pantry, access to personal items and toiletries, as a clothing exchange, help with school supplies and to offer emotional support for students who find themselves on their own for the first time.
Needed items include:
● Non-perishable foods — Peanut butter, jelly, small boxes of cold cereal, oatmeal packets, tuna/chicken packets or cans, canned soups, canned pasta (i.e., Chef Boyardee), macaroni and cheese, granola bars, single packages of crackers/snacks, dried pasta, spaghetti sauce, bottled water, ramen
● Perishable foods — Eggs, margarine, cheese sticks, fresh fruits, vegetables
● Toiletries — Toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, liquid hand soap
● Adult-sized clothing (college age appropriate) and school supplies
● Monetary donations — Make checks out to EAC Foundation and mail to Eastern Arizona College, Student Life Dept. Attn: Patti Wren, 615 N. Stadium Ave., Thatcher, AZ 85552; or drop off at the Monster Exchange.
The Monster Exchange on EAC’s Thatcher Campus is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for students and donations.
