For the second time in a week, the Eastern Arizona College Men’s Hoops team defeated one of the top teams in the ACCAC. EAC defeated then conference leader Arizona Western last week. Wednesday night they defeated 2nd place Scottsdale 97-79.
Eastern was led in scoring by freshman Nate Pollard (Indianapolis,IN) who poured in 25 points on 12/14 shooting. Freshman James Burns (Lafayette, IN) added 22. It was the fourth straight game that Burns scored over 20 points for the Gila Monsters. EAC used a 14-2 first half run to take a 43-37 halftime lead. They were able to get to the rim in the 2nd half to balloon their lead to 20 and one point and coasted to the win.
Eastern Arizona sits at 12-7 overall and 5-7 in the ACCAC. There are five Division 1 teams in the league and the top 4 qualify for the region championship. They are tied for 4th place with Central Arizona after Wednesday’s win. Eastern will be at home Saturday night at 7:30pm to take on the Pima Aztecs.
