With just 3 regular season games remaining for both the Eastern Arizona Women and Men’s basketball teams, both are locked into their respective region playoff tournament.
The Women were defeated on Saturday in Mesa 62-52. They currently sit as the #3 seed in the Division 1 Region 1 Playoffs. They are 12-7 in the ACCAC and sit behind #2 Cochise College and #1 Central Arizona. Arizona Western has been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
Eastern still has 3 regular season games remaining but the chance of the seeds changings is slim. EAC would be at Cochise in the semifinals and the winner would then play at Central Arizona. The winner of the Region 1 Division 1 tournament will head to Lubbock, Texas for the Women’s National Tournament March 17th through 21st.
The EAC Men’s team locked up at least the #2 seed in the Region 1 playoffs with a 74-65 at Mesa on Saturday. The Monsters will have three regular season games left. Currently Cochise College is #1, EAC #2, Mesa #3 and Arizona Western is #4.
The Men’s Region tournament starts February 29th with #4 at #1 and #3 and #2. The two winners will meet Monday, March 2nd for the Region 1 Championship. Unlike the women, the men will have to play the winner of Region 18 in Utah on March 7th. The winner of that game will get the auto bid into The Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas starting March 16th.
