THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park Campus (EAC DPC) is grateful to be on the receiving end of a $5,000 grant from Freeport-McMoRan Inc. to support and enhance its popular STEM field trips in astronomy and native habitat, as well as other activities.
“This generous grant from Freeport-McMoRan will enable us to significantly improve our lessons by purchasing unique tools to observe important regions of the infrared wavelengths,” said EAC DPC Director Paul Anger. “The funds will be used to purchase FLIR thermal vision monoculars and night vision binoculars.”
Along with STEM field trips, these tools will be beneficial to the bi-annual Community Star Party with the Desert SkyGazers astronomy club; the annual Summer Science Camp sponsored by the Eastern Arizona Science Initiative (EASI) and the free field trips DPC offers twice a week to local schools.
