EAC announces a special guest speaker from NASA

THATCHER – Eastern Arizona College is pleased to announce a special presentation: Steven G. Schmidt, assistant director for strategic implementation at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC), in Edwards, Calif., will be a guest speaker in the Activities Center – Lee Little Theater on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, from 1:30 – 3 p.m.
Schmidt will give an overview of his career, the important missions NASA AFRC is currently conducting, and how students can become involved in NASA projects through internships, scholarships and fellowships that can lead them to a career at NASA. His presentation runs around 45 minutes, and he will allow questions from the students throughout the presentation.
Schmidt will be joined by Ms. Yvonne Gibbs, webmaster and IT communications manager at NASA AFRC. Her previous duties included being the technology transfer manager, where she handled patents and licensing and well as new technologies, and being a technical editor. She has worked various private sector jobs, including working for Disney, Yellowstone Park, Yosemite Park and several publishing companies. She was also a foreign exchange student to Costa Rica. Gibbs holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Cal State Long Beach.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to expand their vision and explore new career possibilities,” EAC Dean of Instruction, Dr. Phil McBride said. “I encourage all interested students and community members to attend and bring a friend!”

The lecture is free to the public and the entire community is invited to attend.
