THATCHER — Opportunities to get a bachelor’s degree without leaving the Gila Valley continues to grow.

Following the announcement last April that Eastern Arizona College will offer a four-year degree in nursing, and approval by the college’s governing board in November that a four-year degree will be offered in organizational leadership, college President Todd Haynie said two more degrees are on the way.

“The board just approved bachelor of arts in elementary education and in secondary education,” Haynie said. “Nursing is the next one — hopefully, if we get all our accreditation processees approved — (to) start in the fall.”

The first two four-year degree offerings were announced in 2024 — health sciences and music education.

According to the recently released 2025 Annual Report, a four-year degree obtained from Eastern Arizona College will cost about 25 percent less than the state’s public universities.
