SIERRA VISTA — The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality announced Wednesday that two Arizona waterways have come off the list of waters impaired by E. coli.

The delisted waterways are Fossil Creek and a portion of the San Pedro River, bringing the total number of delisted waterways in Arizona through 2022 to eight.

However, two area waterways remain listed as impaired by high concentrations of E. coli, with both in Greenlee County.

The Blue River, from Strayhorse Creek to the San Francisco River, and the San Francisco River, from the Blue River to Limestone Gulch, continue to be impaired by E. coli levels.

However, thanks to work by Gila Watershed Partnership, area ranchers and other volunteers, the San Francisco River, from the New Mexico state line to the Blue River, is considered in good condition by the Environmental Protection Agency.
