Double-R Communciations Battle of the Bands is now accepting band applications

On July 6th,Double-R Communications in conjunction with Freeport McMoran, Bud Lite, Audio Visions and Richard’s Music will be staging the Nickel Picnic and Battle of the Bands; an event that has become one of the largest and most successful one-day festivals in Arizona.

Taking place at the Graham County Fairgrounds at the racing grandstands, the event starts at noon on July 6th, and will feature nearly 20 bands of all kinds competing for $1500 in  prize money. This year is the 16th year for the Battle of the Bands, and organizers expect an increase in the crowd, surpassing the 3,000 who attended the event last year.

The contest is open to any kind of musical group. In past years, we have had pop, rock, country, traditional, heavy metal and Mexican groups—just to name a few. First Prize is $1,500 in cash, 2nd Prize is $500, with Gift Certificates for 3rd & 4th place bands. An all-star judging panel will also select the best individual musicians in 4 categories—and each of those winners will receive substantial prizes.

In addition to all of the music, families can take advantage of the “food portion” of the event as well. Over 3,000 hot dogs will be “sold” at 5 cents each—first come first served.

Best of all, the event has just a $2 admission charge. What other event in the area offers a $2 admission, a 5 cent meal—and great entertainment featured all day long?

For the 2nd year there will be event T-shirts for sale as well.

If you have a band and would like a chance at $1500 in cash, send and email to battleofthebands@doublermedia.net to get an application. There is a $25 application fee that is due when returning your application that is fully refundable when you check in on the day of the event.

In any case, make every effort to attend this year’s event—and see what everyone else will be talking about for the next few months!
