SAFFORD — Graham County Health Department reported Tuesday that the COVID-19 Delta variant has been detected locally.
Health Department officials said the Delta variant is much more infectious than previous variants, and accounts for more than 80 percent of new cases nationwide.
The Health Department also reports 39 new active cases and two deaths over the last six weeks. All new cases involve residents who have not been vaccinated.
Almost 11,000 doses of vaccine have been administered to Graham County residents, with zero cases of reaction or hospitalization. According to Arizona Department of Health, just 28 percent of Graham County has been vaccinated.
The Graham County Health Department continues to offer both the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and the two-shot Moderna vaccine for free. The clinic is open 8-11 a.m. Monday-Wednesday, and 2-5 p.m. Thursday. Call 928-428-0110 to schedule an appointment.
