COVID-19 hospitalizations up, unvaccinated down

SAFFORD — The number of Graham County residents being hospitalized due to coronavirus increased over the last week, but the number hospitalized being unvaccinated decreased.

That’s according to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, which reported a daily average of 12 patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 as of Oct. 27, up from 9 as of Oct. 20.

Meanwhile the percent hospitalized who are not vaccinated is at 92.2 percent, down from 95.4 percent last week.

Graham County Health Department reported 85 new cases as of Oct. 25, bringing October’s total thus far to 505, the month with the fifth greatest number of cases since the start of the pandemic.

There were also two more coronavirus-related deaths, bringing October’s total thus far to 14. That ties January for the month with the second-most COVID-19 deaths, behind 16 last December.

Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the United Way of Greenlee Counties, is offering free drive-up COVID-19 testing at the hospital’s Copper Mountain Clinic.

Free drive-up testing takes place Monday through Friday, from 1-7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Graham County continues to offer free vaccinations for anyone over the age of 12 at the vaccination clinic on Main Street in Safford.
