SAFFORD — While the number of people eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 increases, the number of active coronavirus cases in the Gila Valley continues to decline.

Graham County Health Department reported just 15 new cases over the past seven days, bringing the total number of new cases in March to just 71 through March 29, 59 percent fewer than February and 96 percent fewer than January at the same time.

March’s total is the lowest number of cases since last June.

On Saturday, the Health Department announced that any Graham County resident 18 and older may register to receive the two-shot COVID-19 vaccine at any time the county’s vaccination clinic is open.

For those who want the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, a clinic will be held Friday, April 16.

To register for either vaccine, go to www.graham.az.gov.

In Greenlee County, there was one new case over the past seven days.

That brings Greenlee’s total number of new cases in March thus far to just five, and 568 since the start of the pandemic.
