SAFFORD — Things were looking very good when it came to new coronavirus cases in the Gila Valley in April. Until the state’s Department of Health made an adjustment Monday.

Graham County Health Department reported that 139 cases previously attributed to Gila County were moved into Graham County’s statistics. The cases involved residents of the San Carlos Apache tribe who live on the reservation and all have recovered.

Prior to Monday’s adjustment, there had been just seven new cases of coronavirus recorded in Graham County through April 8; however, with the adjustment, April’s total now stands at 146, nearly double the number of cases in the entire month of March.

Graham County’s total number of cases since the start of the pandemic is at 5,521, with 77 deaths.

Graham County Health Department also announced there will be two clinics with the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine available — April 16 and April 24. Pre-registration is required and recipients must 18 or older; however, residency is not a requirement.

The Health Department continues to offer the two-dose vaccine through its clinic on Main Street in Safford. Two register for either the one-dose or two-dose vaccine, go to www.graham.az.gov.
