Coronavirus cases in the Gila Valley on the decline

SAFFORD — Graham County Health Department reported Monday that new cases had dropped below triple digits for the first time in more than a month.

As of Feb. 14, there were 56 new COVID-19 cases over the previous four days, and active cases dropped to 1,845.

There have been 624 new cases of COVID-19 in February thus far, and the total number of cases experienced in Graham County since the start of the pandemic is at 11,736.

The Health Department also reported two coronavirus-related deaths, bringing February’s total thus far to four, and 168 since the pandemic started two years ago.

Arizona Department of Health Services reports 50 percent of Graham county’s population has been vaccinated for coronavirus. Graham County Health Department is providing free vaccines to anyone 5-years-old and older, and free boosters to anyone 12 and older. Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, is offering free drive-up COVID-19 testing at the hospital’s Copper Mountain Clinic. Free drive-up testing takes place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
