All local poetry enthusiasts are invited to attend the Library Festival of Poetry scheduled for Thursday, April twenty-first from twelve to seven thirty. In honor of Poetry Month, the Festival of Poetry will be an all-day event with a variety of programs for children, teenagers, and adults. The festival will be at the Safford Library.
The day will begin with poetry and pancakes for kids at noon. Children will be encouraged to come and enjoy their favorite poetry. If they have any of their own poetry, they can read it for the rest of the group. At three thirty, there will be a teen poetry slam. The library has yet to decide whether it will be serving popcorn or pizza, but there will definitely be refreshments available. There will also be an adult poetry slam at five in the afternoon with an open mike. If you have a favorite poem, or a poem you’ve written yourself, you are free to read it to the rest of the group.
All of these programs are free to the public. After the poetry readings and slams, there will be a showing of the movie, Dead Poets Society. Popcorn will be served at the free movie showing. “I’m going to have books at the kids program as well as every program, so they don’t have to necessarily bring their own poetry,” Brandon Nite stated, “There will be books out there that they can just read straight from.”
The Library Festival of Poetry will be a fun experience for the whole community. Whether you want to teach your children about poetry, or show off your latest work, the Festival of Poetry is a must-attend event.
