Citizens help police locate hit-and-run driver

SAFFORD – Safford residents stepped up to help police locate a hit-and-run driver.

On Thursday, April 9, witnesses reported seeing a parked vehicle struck by another in the area of 2nd Avenue and 16th Street, and then the man driving the second vehicle leave the scene of the accident on foot.

Witnesses were able to provide photos of the man, which led police to identify him as Richie Garcia.

As officers canvassed the area, multiple residents informed the police they witnessed Garcia reportedly running through yards and alleys, as well as knocking on several doors attempting to gain entrance.

Garcia was eventually located in the area of Fargo and Stirrup Drive, and taken into custody without further incident. A records check found that Garcia was also wanted on a $25,000 felony warrant for aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.
