GRAHAM COUNTY — A local man had the wherewithal to contact law enforcement before losing money to a scam.
The man contacted Graham County Sheriff’s Office to inform them he received a message on his computer that claimed child pornography was discovered in his possession, and he would subject to arrest if he didn’t immediately remit a “fine.”
Deputies confirmed the scam but were unable to make contact with the scammers. The man also confirmed he did not send any payment.
The Arizona Attorney General’s Office lists a number of types of scams the public should be wary of, including, but not limited to:
● Charity scams
● Predatory lending
● Debt collections
● Door-to-door sales
● Internet auctions
● Home improvement schemes
● Sweepstakes and lotteries
● Travel scams
● Moving fraud
Anyone receiving unsolicited contact about any situation requiring the sending of money or sharing of financial information should disconnect immediately and contact local law enforcement.
