Chase Bank in Safford robbed Thursday afternoon, suspect in custody

SAFFORD — Safford Police are searching for the suspect in an armed robbery of Chase Bank on Thursday, July 10.

According to a prepared release by Safford Police Chief Brian Avila, the suspect entered the bank at 12:10 p.m., and handed a teller a note saying he was armed and demanding money. No weapon was displayed.

The suspect then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Police did not disclose the direction in which the suspect fled or mode of transportation.

Safford Police are receiving assistance from the FBI and other local law enforcement agencies.

UPDATE

According to a social media posting by the San Carlos Apache Police Department, two suspects in the bank robbery have been apprehended.

The arrests occurred at about 5:15 p.m., on the western portion of the reservation, by a multi-jurisdictional arrest team, led by the San Carlos Apache Police Department.

“The investigation involved assistance from local law enforcement the AZDPS and BIA,” the posting reads.
