Charles Joseph Bashaw

Charles Joseph Bashaw, a longtime resident of Safford, entered into eternal rest Monday morning, September 24, 2018, at his residence, with his wife, Julia and his sons at his bedside. Charles was 94.

Charles was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on May 17, 1924, to the late Charles and Ellen (Shea) Bashaw. Charles graduated from Newburyport High School before enlisting in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1947, Charles settled back in the Newburyport area to work and raise his family. Charles eventually settled in Safford in 1992 to enjoy the weather and beauty of the Gila Valley.

Charles is survived by: his wife, Julia E. (Gibbs) Bashaw ,of Safford; his children, JoEllen Nangle (Phil), of Houston, Texas, Charles (Sue), of Wells, Maine, John (Theresa Gilbert), of Jackman, Maine, Gregory (Cindy), of Byfield, Massachusetts, David (Kelly Wach), of Wells, Maine and Scott (Terri), of West Newbury, Massachusetts; twenty grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by: his former wife, Marie B. (Foley) Bashaw; and his daughter, Jaqueline Tullercash.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles will be celebrated Friday, October 5, 2018, at 12:30 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Committal will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday morning, October 5, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Twomey, LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street in Newburyport.

The family suggests contributions may be made in Charlie’s name to the roof fund of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 2257 S. 1st Ave, Solomon AZ 85551.
