SAFFORD — The Graham County Chamber of Commerce reported to the City of Safford Council on Monday that the city’s annual investment of $160,000, the annual value of the Chamber Building, and the value of in-kind event donations, has resulted in a return of $4.27 for every dollar spent.

This translates to more than $1.29 million in benefits for Safford residents, reflecting significant improvements in economic activity and quality of life.

Vance Bryce, executive director of the Chamber, addressed the council, emphasizing the importance of this partnership.

“Our partnership makes a difference to the bottom line of Safford businesses and the quality of life of Safford residents, and we are proud to be champions for the City of Safford. Funding the Chamber is good business,” Bryce said.

Among the Chamber’s accomplishments in 2024 is the creation of the Escape to Safford Arizona tourism package, in collaboration with local businesses and the Mount Graham Golf Club. This package, valued at $700 and sold for $400, includes golf, dining, and accommodations, drawing visitors to Safford.

Additionally, the Chamber has provided cost-effective design and marketing services for initiatives such as the Safford Air Show and the new airport logo.

The Chamber’s organization of major community events, including SalsaFest and the Safford Spring Festival, has spurred commercial activity while attracting private sponsorships from organizations such as NatureSweet, Kempton Chevrolet, United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, Double R Communications, OneAZ Credit Union, and Mount Graham Regional Medical Center.

The adoption of Placer.ai technology, in partnership with Freeport-McMoRan and the Graham Economic Partnership, has allowed the Chamber to measure the economic impact of its efforts for the first time, paving the way for increased private investment.

Collaboration remains at the heart of the Chamber’s mission. In 2024, its facilities were used by a wide array of local organizations, strengthening community ties and fostering resilience. The Chamber also worked closely with Eastern Arizona College to sponsor the Gila Valley Leadership Program, cultivating future leaders and celebrating Safford’s projects.

In another notable achievement, the Chamber facilitated a gubernatorial visit during the Safford Spring Festival, which provided a platform to elevate the city’s profile and strengthen its connections at the state level.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Chamber aims to build on these successes by continuing to innovate, support local businesses, and drive economic growth.

“We are deeply grateful for the City’s trust and investment,” Bryce said. “Funding the Chamber is not just good business; it’s an investment in our community’s future.”
