SAFFORD — The Graham County Chamber of Commerce recently hosted the ribbon-cutting and open house for Essential Patient Care LLC.

On Friday, Essential Patient Care LLC held its ribbon cutting and open house at 1496 Whirlwind Way Safford on Friday. Designed to be a home-like atmosphere for elderly individuals living with dementia, the new housing units are a longtime goal coming to completion, said Valerie Hernandez, one of the owners of the business.

“We offer more of a friendship and family type of basis,” Hernandez said. “We’re more like a taylorized family and personal care live-in home. It’s in a home, a residential setting that’s supposed to be more like home.”

Hernandez said she has been working toward opening the home for over a year.

Scott Mulleneaux, Hernandez’s business partner, is also excited about opening the home.

“I thought there is such a huge need for this down here that there’s such a disservice to the community to not have the ability for people to get their loved ones into homes,” he said. “I started talking to Valarie and said that it has always been a dream of mine and I think we can make it happen together and that’s how we started everything off.” The philosophy of the business is to make it a home-like setting, said Mulleneaux. Instead of being a facility, he said the aim of the business is to make the Essentiential Patient Care business home-like, since that helps the residents feel more comfortable.
