CLIFTON — The U.S. Forest Service is warning residents to be aware of potential flash flooding in Greenlee County due to the Bringham fire.

The wildfire 22 miles north of Morenci has burned 23,142 acres and is at 40-percent containment.

“Areas downstream of the Bringham fire burned area, which recreationalists may use, are now more vulnerable to flash flooding and debris flows — ash, sand, silt, rocks and woody material,” Forest Service officials wrote.

A Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response team is on scene to assess to situation and determine the actions required to protect the land.

The fire was started by a lightning strike on June 6.
