Boy on bike injured despite driver’s efforts

GRAHAM COUNTY — A 13-year-old boy suffered a broken arm after riding his bike into the path of a pick-up truck.

Graham County Sheriff’s deputies reported the incident occurred Thursday, Aug. 11, just after 4 p.m. in the area of South Lebanon Road and Anns Ranch Road.

Witnesses reported seeing the boy entered the roadway on his electric bicycle at a speed too fast to avoid contact with the truck. Meanwhile the truck driver, who was traveling at the posted speed limit, tried to avoid the collision by slamming on his brakes and swerving into the oncoming lane of traffic.

The driver’s maneuver was unsuccessful and the grill of the truck struck the boy, sending him about 20 feet from the point of collision.

The boy was transported to MGRMC, where he was treated for the broken arm and lacerations to his face.

There were no citations issued in the incident.
