PIMA — The body of a 4-year-old girl who went missing during a swift-water rescue during last Thursday’s storm has been found.

“She was located by a civilian volunteer, and Graham County Sheriff’s deputies confirmed it was her,” said Graham County Search and Rescue’s Tommy Snodderly. “We really want to say a big thank you to all the civilians who volunteered.”

A posting on the Facebook group Search for 4yr old Maci said the child’s body was discovered in the Eden area; however, Snodderly said location where the body was recovered has not yet been officially released, due to the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Snodderly said that, in addition to all the civilian volunteers and donations from the community, Graham County Search and Rescue was aided by a number of other groups, including: Cochise County Search and Rescue; Greenlee County Search and Rescue; Federal Bureau of Prisons; Arizona Department of Corrections; Freeport’s special rescue unit; San Carlos Apache Tribe; Aquatronic; Vorstar; AirEvac; DPS Ranger helicopter; Thatcher, Pima and Safford Police departments; and Morenci, Clifton, Pima, Thatcher and Safford Fire departments.

“Thank you to all the agencies that allowed their employees leave their jobs to come help us; we appreciate them doing that,” Snodderly said.
