Blood test to determine if driver impaired in rollover

GRAHAM COUNTY — Graham County Sheriff’s deputies are awaiting the results of blood alcohol tests to determine if impairment was a factor in a rollover accident Wednesday.

The crash occurred at about 8 p.m. on 14th Avenue.

When deputies arrived, they found the driver on the ground next to his vehicle. Witnesses said he exited on his own and tried walking away but was brought back.

Deputies reported the man said he was traveling at a high rate of speed because he thought he was being chased by someone, and the speed caused him to lose control of the vehicle when traveling through a curve.

The report indicates the man allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol three to four hours before the crash, and had taken unnamed drugs the night before. He failed one field sobriety test but passed a second.

The driver complained of knee pain and was transported by the deputies to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center for treatment and the blood draw.
