Holiday shopping is upon us, and unfortunately, ’tis the season for porch pirates.
According to a new nationwide survey by Lombardo Homes, 94% of Americans plan on having packages delivered this holiday season, and half say they’re worried about “porch pirates” stealing their deliveries.
Highlights include:
- 34% of Americans have had a package stolen in their lifetimes, with the average value of stolen goods coming in at $219.
- Of nearly one-third of Americans who’ve been victimized by package theft, 54% have had a package stolen during the holidays.
- 39% of people surveyed said they are more worried about packages being stolen this year, than previous years.
- 78% expect porch pirates to strike more after Black Friday & Cyber Monday sales
How do Americans prevent package theft? 52% say they track the delivery process, 50% stay home when expecting a package and 40% sign up for delivery alerts.
Fortunately, porch piracy is not as common in Arizona as it is in other states. Arizona ranks #28 out of the 50 states. North Dakota and Rhode Island are the top two state for package theft.
Better yet, shop local and don’t risk it.
