Beatrice “Claire” Evans

Beatrice “Claire” Evans passed away quietly November 24, 2021, after a battle with cancer. She was 82. Claire was born in Chariton, Iowa July 8,1939. She was the only child born to James and Marjorie Evans. They later moved to San Diego, California, where she grew up and married David Smith. They had three children: Abbe Kulhanek from Apple Valley California, Randy Smith (Virginia Morales) of Phoenix and Matthew Smith (Maria Rodriguez) of Safford. Claire had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved deeply, and all loved her deeply.

Claire moved to Safford in 1991 and later was the owner operator of Perks Coffeehouse downtown. She was very proud of that and being one of the first winners of the pride of Safford award multiple times. After selling Perks she later went to work as a night auditor and front desk clerk at Days Inn. After retiring she spent her time doing the things that she loved, studying her bible, decorating, sewing, taking care of her cat, shopping and visiting friends when able. Having her family and friends visit gave her the most joy.

A memorial service is being planned for December 11, 2021. The family has set up a go fund me account to help cover medical and final expenses.
