PHOENIX – In place of the formerly scheduled April 18th Congressional District level meetings in Phoenix and Tucson, the Arizona Democratic party will be moving to an all-mail ballot election to ensure people’s safety during the COVID-19 situation. The highest vote total in each gender category will be used to determine the winning delegates within each of the nine congressional districts.
A Google Form will be created that allows Precinct Committee Persons (PC) to verify the following information: Name, address where they are registered, presidential candidate for whom they are pledged to.
Arizona Democratic Party staff will verify they are a current PC and their current congressional district.
A mail ballot will be sent to each PC that requests a ballot, based on the presidential candidate for whom each PC selected. PC’s will only be sent one ballot.
Each ballot will contain the names of delegate candidates within that PC’s based on their pledged presidential candidate choice.
Ballots will have clear instructions for the PC to make selections based on the approved amount of male, female and non-binary candidates.
PC`s must make their selections and return their ballot by mail to the Arizona Democratic Party Headquarters by Saturday, April 25th, 2020 (adjusted one week to accommodate US mail). No exceptions will be made, all ballots must be mailed to be considered valid. No scanning, faxing or in-person delivery accepted.
Ballots will be counted by Arizona Democratic party staff, Affirmative Action Moderator and representatives from each presidential campaign if they so choose, for transparency.
Elected Delegates will be announced by May 1st, 2020 via the Arizona Democratic Party website.
Notice will be sent to all district-level delegates elected by mail-in ballot and announced on May 1st, 2020, which will include the ballot with the names of candidates for PLEO (party leaders and elected officials), At-Large, and Alternates.
Per Arizona Democratic Party-Approved Delegate Selection Plan, PLEO and At-Large Delegates will be elected by a caucus of district-level delegates elected in the above election process on May 16th, at our State Convention.
In the event that State Convention is canceled, the following process will be adopted.
District Level Delegates will make their selections and return their ballot to the Arizona Democratic party office by no later than May 16th, 2020. No exceptions will be allowed. No fax, scanned or in-person delivery accepted. Only ballots submitted by US mail will be considered valid.
Winning delegates will be announced on the ADP website on or before May 22nd, 2020.
On May 25th, 2020 correspondence will be sent to the delegation to select delegation Chair, Standing Committee Members and Pages.
