SAFFORD — The local youth soccer program is in need of some help.
“The other thing that I think people need to recognize is that it’s an all-volunteer program,” said AYSO Gila Valley Region 216’s Donna Harrison. “We average around 800 kids, and last year alone we had 85 teams, so that means we needed to have at least 85 coaches.”
Volunteer coaches must 18 or older, submit to a background check and complete a safety course.
The program is open to players between 4 and 19 years old in six divisions — 6U (6 and under), 8U, 10U, 12U, 15U and 19U.
Play will start in the summer, but AYSO Gila Valley Region 216 is delaying player registration until all coaching vacancies are filled and training completed.
AYSO Gila Valley Region 216 is also seeking volunteer board members and referees.
