Authorities looking for driver in collision with utility pole

Authorities responded to a single motor vehicle accident with injury Sunday night in the area of Montierth Lane, just north of Highway 70. The vehicle hit a power pole and lines were down in the roadway. The driver had reportedly left the scene on foot.

The vehicle was found in a farm field on the west side of Montierth Lane, just north of the highway. The pole was lying in the middle of the road with wires laying across the road. Investigators found several beer cans amongst the debris in the field near the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle, authorities found a current registration as well as a wallet with a driver’s license. The license listed the same name as the owner of the car. A cellphone and handgun were also found in the vehicle.

During the investigation the cellphone rang. Caller ID showed it to be the mother of the alleged driver. A deputy answered and the woman asked for her son. The deputy told her about the accident and that the driver was not at the scene. The woman had been contacted by law enforcement trying to make locate her son. She said that she didn’t know he had left the house until police knocked on her door.

After investigating the scene it was determined that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Montierth lane and a high rate of speed, ran a stop sign at the highway and struck a utility pole. The vehicle was totaled. The driver’s seatbelt was still in its normal resting place when not in use, indicating that the driver had not been wearing it.

As of the accident report, the driver of the vehicle had not been located.
