Safford – Last week, AmeriCorps NCCC team Earth Eight worked with the Graham County Cooperative Extension at Discovery Park, utilizing sections of old telephone poles – that were moved by the team and local college students from a nearby city yard – to build a 250 x 10 foot wide section of walking trail at the park, so that kids (and adults) could safely walk through and enjoy the park without having to walk on the road. The team also worked on pruning mesquite trees along and around the trail for better visibility, and additionally tidied up, weeded, and pruned the area around the park’s outdoor classroom, which will be used to teach people on topics relating to Discovery Park.
The team of nine young adults arrived on April 8 and will be serving here through July 5.
