SAFFORD — The popular Adult Summer Reading Challenge at Safford City-Graham County Library is back for 2021.
Adults can pick up a Free Summer Reading Challenge card at the Safford Library beginning Monday, June 7. The card offers self-paced reading and activity challenges such as “Read a book featuring an animal” or “Read a book set somewhere you would like to visit.”
Every time one completes a challenge, the reader is entered into a weekly drawing for a prize purchased from local merchants. Weekly prizes have been provided by Marcia’s Garden Soap Shop, the Red Oven Pizzeria, and the Rustic Barn Bakery, among others.
Complete 12 challenges by July 19 to earn a ticket for the grand prize drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card donated by the Friends of the Safford Library.
“Summer reading is fun — even for grown-ups,” said Library Supervisor Lesley Talley. “In the past, we have seen friends compete against each other, kids cheering their parents on, and readers simply enjoying finding books they may not have considered before.”
At saffordlibrary.org, adults can also track their reading online and join in community challenges to earn badges. Children and teens also track their reading online to earn prizes, making summer reading an activity the entire family can enjoy together.
The 2021 Summer Reading Program features a full lineup of activities for all ages, including movie screenings, cooking and craft classes, a Magic the Gathering tournament and an escape room.
