A spooktacular weekend of Halloween fun on tap

PIMA — It will be a full weekend of ghosts, goblins and parties in the Gila Valley.

Halloween festivities get underway Thursday, Oct. 27, with the first day of the fourth annual Fright at the Museum.

Admission is $5 and the haunted house serves as a fund-raiser for Eastern Arizona Museum and Historical Society in Pima. The haunted house will run from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday.

For those who like their Halloween without the scare, the museum is offering a special showing.

“Saturday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m., we’re going to have some of our volunteers there and do . . . a no-scare tour. So from 10-11 a.m., we’ll have people there and if anyone wants to come, we’ll still charge the $5 and they can come through and see the decorations (with) lights on and no live actors in there,” said Clint Woods, museum board president. “A lot of people just want to see it; they want to see what we’ve created.”

For those who aren’t afraid of a scare, the FFF Clubhouse will present its haunted house Friday and Saturday, from 7-9 p.m. each day. Admission is $5 and one can of non-perishable food to be donated to the local food banks. The FFF Clubhouse Haunted House is at 871 E. Ceairra Linda in Safford.

On Friday, the Pima Parent-Teacher Organization, with additional support from the Graham County Chamber of Commerce, will host its annual Halloween Carnival on the high school football field, from 5-9 p.m.

“It’s going to be fun,” said Brooke Curley with the Chamber. “There’s going to bouncy castles (and) some mechanical bulls. Meg’s Place is going to be there, Kainoa’s, (Dug’s Blowin’ Smoke) Barbecue and Shelby Cakes. And all the kiddos 4 years old and younger are free.”

There will also be dummy roping, an inflatable obstacle course, and the Chamber will host a cornhole tournament and announce the winners of its costume contest.

Also on Friday, from 4-9 p.m., Multi Vendor Events will host a Freaky Friday event t Tractor Supply in Thatcher.  The event will feature jumping castles, face painting, food trucks and other vendors, give-aways and more. The first 20 children will receive a free bag of candy.

On Saturday, there will be a Gila Valley Makers Market Halloween event, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the VFW Post in Thatcher. Featured will be trick-or-treating, food, shopping and more.

Arizona Dodge in Safford will host a trunk or treat and costume party event from 2-4 p.m.

The Greenlee County Substance Abuse Coalition will host its third annual Truck or Treat event Saturday, from 5-8:30 p.m., at GiMees Restaurant in York Valley. The band Hotel Transylvania will begin playing at sundown.

Also on Saturday Greenlee County will host its Fall Festival at the Greenlee County Fairgrounds in Duncan. Trunk or Treat will take place from 5:30-7 p.m., and there will be a pumpkin carving contest, costume contest, food, games and a family movie starting at 6:30 p.m.

On Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Clifton Merchants Market on Coronado Avenue will feature a Trunk O’ Treat Bash, with face painting, candy, vendors and live music from Zaylie Windsor and Jace Hughes.

On Halloween Monday, trunk-or-treating will be available from 4-6 p.m. at Lighthouse Medical Center in Safford, from 6-8 p.m. at Home Depot in Thatcher, and from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tripp Canyon Road in Pima.
